When Your Heart Stops Beating bowed at #10 on the Billboard chart.

Barker broke his right arm while shooting (+44)’s first music video, but the injury has not slowed him down. During that time, their former bandmate, Tom DeLonge, did the opposite, peppering blogs and magazines with quotes

"It's some of the most positive stuff I've ever written, but it's also some of the darkest, too. And I'm incredibly proud of it all." - Plus-44's Mark Hoppus

hyping his new band and putting the blame for the Blink situation squarely on their shoulders.

While it sometimes pained them to do so, Hoppus and Barker still refrained from speaking to the media, instead burying themselves in the recording of the debut album by their new band, Plus-44.

Now, with Plus' album, When Your Heart Stops Beating, "99 percent finished," the guys are embarking on a press blitz of their own.

"We just bit our tongues and didn't say anything, and now that the record is done, we get the chance to tell the truth about everything," Hoppus said. "We want to say, 'Here's the truth about Blink, here's the truth about Plus-44.' We're not talking sh-- - we just want our fans to know the truth about everything."

"We were silent for a year, and we couldn't put into words what we were doing, so we just decided not to say anything and let the music speak for itself," Barker added. "Now it's time for people to hear that music and hear the truth."

That truth - about the past 18 months of their lives - percolates throughout Heart, a point made by Hoppus during Plus' first-ever interview last month, and one that both he and Barker expounded on in their second chat with MTV News.

"The whole album is about everything that's happened, including Blink, and the ugly feelings that were left over afterwards," Hoppus said. "Lyrically, it's some of the most positive stuff I've ever written, but it's also some of the darkest sh--, too. And I'm incredibly proud of it all."

"Ever since the whole Blink thing went down, we were left on our own, we were the underdogs," Barker added. "We had a year's worth of touring planned, we were writing a record, and all of a sudden [Tom] just dropped the ball. And while we were still on tour, he was having discussions with us about, 'Oh, I can't wait until we're doing this 20 years from now.' So now, with Plus-44, my attitude is like, 'F--- you, watch me do this 20 years from now.' "

Hoppus said there will be 11 songs on Heart - due November 14, according to Interscope - including the title track (which is shaping up to be the first single), "Little Death," "Chapter 13" (a "straight-up spastic tune," according to Barker) and "No It Isn't," a song that leaked earlier this year and created quite a stir because it seemed to address the Blink situation head-on.

"Yeah, that one is absolutely about the end of Blink," Hoppus said. "We leaked it online almost a year ago, in a demo version, and it's one of the few songs that's only changed a little bit."

With the record nearly done, Plus-44 are now gearing up to hit the road, lining up dates for a North American tour scheduled to kick off in late October. And while Barker has been dealing with some personal stuff - chiefly the divorce petition he filed against his wife (and former "Meet the Barkers" co-star) Shanna Moakler earlier this month - he maintains that he's eagerly looking forward to the time on the road.

"Anytime I'm struggling or in a place where I have to keep my head above water, it always makes me get even deeper into my music," he said. "So yeah, I'm really looking forward to getting out there and playing. In a way it's weird, because this band has been about making the best out of a f---ed-up situation, and now this tour is, too. I feel like every few years something goes down with me where I have to prove myself again. And that's what this is, but it only makes me stronger."

blink-182 was a Southern California Pop Punk band formed in 1992 by Tom DeLonge, Mark Hoppus and Scott Raynor in the northern San Diego suburb of Poway, California. Travis Barker replaced Raynor on drums in 1998, midway through blink-182's US tour. In 2005, the band announced they were on "indefinite hiatus", as internal strife between members reached its zenith.
The group is known for its catchy melodies, as well as for satirical, and sometimes profanity-laden, toilet humor. Musically, the band plays up-tempo songs with prominent major-chord harmonies, often digitally mixed, to provide a much cleaner sound than typical punk/rock recordings, which generally exhibit distortion and analogue mixes to achieve the opposite effect. The lyrical content of their songs, prior to their last album, was usually humorous and uplifting.

Although the band is labeled as Blink 182 on albums prior to Raynor's departure, the official rendering of the band's name is blink-182. The numbers 182 are added to the band's name to prevent a trademark conflict with the Irish pop group Blink. However, fans frequently refer to the band informally as 'Blink'.

Early career (1992-1995)

The earliest incarnation of the band can be traced back to the early '90s when DeLonge was reportedly expelled from Poway High School during junior year after being caught drunk at a school basketball game. After he transferred to another school, he met Anne Hoppus, sister of Mark Hoppus, who introduced DeLonge to her brother. The day the two future bandmates met they were skateboarding with friends in a plaza parking lot and to impress DeLonge, Hoppus climbed a lamp pole and jumped from the top, cracking both heels. The two hit it off and eventually came up with the name "Duck Tape" for the name of new band. Duck Tape soon transformed into Blink. In need of a drummer, DeLonge recruited 14-year-old Scott Raynor, whom he had known from a party.

In May 1993, Blink released a demo tape entitled Flyswatter, recorded in drummer Scott Raynor's bedroom. It was their first album and a 4-track was used to record the material, resulting in poor sound quality and according to Hoppus, only around fifty copies were produced. Their first real show took place at a bar and since they were underage, they were only allowed to enter when it was time for their set. They bought 50 tickets to sell, but no one came to see them. After only one song Blink was kicked off the stage and out of the bar. Before the end of the year, the band released another demo tape known as Buddha. Around 1,000 copies were produced by Filter Records (owned by Hoppus' boss).

In early 1994, Blink released their debut full-length album, Cheshire Cat, released on Grilled Cheese Records. The album contained many new versions of songs that had appeared on the Buddha demo.

Shortly after the release of Cheshire Cat, Blink was threatened with legal action by a techno band in Ireland of the same name. In order to avoid a lengthy lawsuit, Blink appended "-182" to the end of their name. There are several rumours as to why these numbers were ultimately chosen, such as their correspondence to the number of times Al Pacino utters the word "fuck" in Scarface, the 1985 Timothy Hutton film, Turk 182!, their representation of Hoppus's ideal weight, or that they represent the position in the alphabet of the letters 'R' and 'B,' referring to the northern San Diego suburb of Rancho Bernardo. However, the band members have dismissed such claims and maintain that the numbers were picked at random. However, in one interview, Barker stated that the "182" was the U.S. radio code meaning 'homicide' (apparently confusing "182," the radio code for conspiracy, with "187"). During the pop punk boom of the 1990s, blink-182 was signed by MCA in 1996 which later became Geffen Records.

Tom DeLonge isn't crazy

Tom DeLonge isn't crazy. He's just super-psyched about his new band, Angels & Airwaves.

And he doesn't care who knows it, which is why — on the day A&A's debut album, We Don't Need to Whisper, hits stores — he's turned

into a human quote-machine, delivering head-scratching gems like this one:

"When we were making this record, I remember one night, it was about 2 a.m. and I went into the studio — which was in my house — and it was pitch black and I put the record on and listened to it, and I had this overwhelming rush of emotions," he said. "I was like, 'Oh my God, this is going to be huge,' and I started having these panic attacks thinking about every country in the world wanting us there multiple times. Conquering the globe is a pretty large endeavor."

You can't blame the dude for being excited. After all, Whisper has been an endeavor almost a year in the making (see "Tom DeLonge Breaking Silence On Blink With Autobiographical LP, Movie"), and in the time since he first announced he was starting the record, he's been peppering the media with statements of its sheer awesomeness (see "Tom DeLonge Spills More About Angels & Airwaves' Plans For World Domination"). And now his fans will be able to have a listen.

"People ask me, 'Is this the next Box Car Racer album?,' and I say, 'Kind of.' And people ask me if this is the next Blink record, and I say, 'Kind of.' But it's also the beginning of something completely new," DeLonge laughed. "This band contains an inner energy and a spiritual awakening that's kind of magical. And it's so full of positive energy that I think that whoever comes to the shows or listens to the album and wants to become a part of it, it will happen to them. I think it's going to be a sort of magical, organic thing that happens with anybody that is willing to have that kind of feeling in their life."

A&A made their worldwide debut in April at the Glass House in Pomona, California (see "Tom DeLonge Addresses Blink With A Song At First A&A Show"), and next month they'll launch an assault on the arenas of America alongside Taking Back Sunday (see "Taking Back Sunday, Angels & Airwaves Announce Tour Dates").

So what can fans expect when they come to an Angels show? Well, given that we're asking Tom DeLonge, you probably can guess the answer.

"These shows have been incredible. ... They're so much different than Blink shows," he said. "They're anthemic and heroic. There's a huge group of people coming to feel the exact same thing at the exact same minute. And it really feels like an ascension to heaven. People are lifting off the ground. There are people crying, and there are these battle flags flying in the wind. It's incredible."

Plus 44 no Tom Delonge

Back when they were co-fronting Blink-182, Tom DeLonge and Mark Hoppus were often seen as musical brothers-in-arms: two like-minded pop-punk aesthetes, equally adept at writing catchy hooks and dispensing witty (if not a tad sophomoric)

"Believe me, when you hear the music they're making, it'll be worth all the secrecy." — Plus-44 spokesperson

But if we've learned anything in the year-plus since Blink went on "indefinite hiatus," it's how different the two of them really are.

While DeLonge seems to have taken any and all opportunities to promote his new band, Angels & Airwaves, Hoppus has remained on the sidelines, content to produce albums for up-and-coming acts (see "Mark Hoppus Throws House Party For Motion City Soundtrack"); conduct delightfully seat-of-the-pants podcasts through his Web site, HiMyNameIsMark.com; and work — in relative secrecy — on his new act, the electro-tinged Plus-44.

While Hoppus' silence may have cemented his status among Blink diehards as "the sane one," it's proven to be a bit of a hindrance when it comes to news about Plus, which he started with Blink drummer Travis Barker in April 2005 (see "Blink-182's Hoppus, Barker Form Electronic Side Project").

What little is known about the band has been provided though various interviews with MTV News — mostly with Barker — and via Hoppus' Web site. Since February, the group has been recording material in a Los Angeles studio owned by Barker and Hoppus, and in recent weeks, Hoppus started discussing a handful of new songs, including "Lillian" (which he said "will kick a million asses") and a track tentatively titled "Weatherman."

Hoppus has also used Plus-44's MySpace page to address rumors that Carol Heller — Plus' singer and the former vocalist for SoCal punk band Get the Girl — had left the band (or, even scarier, that she was found dead in Northern California).

"I heard Carol was dead or quit the band," Hoppus wrote. "Well, let me clear this one up for all of you: Carol is very much alive. She actually is sitting right next to me on this nice comfy leather couch."

That post hasn't quelled Internet whisperings that Heller is, in fact, out of Plus-44 and that she has been replaced by guitarist Craig Fairbaugh. (A spokesperson for the band declined to comment on the matter.)

And while Hoppus could clear up all this mystery with just one interview, don't expect that to happen anytime soon. According to that same spokesperson — who asked not to be identified in this story — he's focusing all of his energy on completing the Plus-44 album in time for a late-2006 release. That also means there will be no Plus shows on the horizon, despite what you may have read on various Web sites.

"They're so close to finishing up the album, and they don't want any distractions," the spokesperson said. "Believe me, when you hear the music they're making, it'll be worth all the secrecy."

Plus-44 Tour Dates

Plus-44 tour dates, according to their management:

is done talking about Tom DeLonge and the details surrounding last year's Blink-182 breakup.

Well, almost.
Turns out he's still got a bit of the ol' vitriol bubbling inside, and he's not shy about letting it boil over.
You just have to ask him about "No It Isn't," a song on Plus-44's upcoming album, When Your Heart Stops Beating (see "Plus-44 Address Blink Breakup On LP, Want Fans To 'Hear The Truth' "). And then just sit back and observe an eruption of Mentos-and-Diet-Coke proportions.

"That song is absolutely about the end of Blink-182," Barker said. "It was a classic case of something bad happening and everyone around you not telling you what the deal was. Like the owner of your record label telling you, 'Oh, everything is going to be fine. Any press you do, Travis, make sure you say everything is cool!' And it turns out the same dude is part of the conspiracy of Tom quitting Blink. The only reason we were being cool and calling it an 'indefinite hiatus' is because that's what this dork at the head of our record label was telling us. So that's when you find out that everyone was conspiring against you. That makes you go, 'F--- you. Here's a song about the real deal.' "

Barker is presumably ranting about Jordan Schur, the former president of Geffen Records (which released Blink's self-titled final album in 2003). Schur announced the formation of his own imprint, Suretone Records, in March and released We Don't Need To Whisper, the debut from DeLonge's Angels & Airwaves, in May. And while he's obviously off Barker's Christmas list, Schur's not the only target of Barker's anger. Witness, if you will, part two of his screed:

"['No It Isn't'] is about coming out a year later and telling the truth," Barker said. "About being like, 'Yeah, we were on our way to go play a tsunami benefit [February 2005's Music for Relief: Rebuilding South Asia], and Tom didn't call, but his manager did, and he said that Tom couldn't contain his sh-- long enough to play a song for people who were suffering, which was pretty sad to me. And obviously we weren't going to say anything bad about him while we were recording our record, but now that it's done, we are gonna talk about it. For a year, people were saying that what Tom did was valid or called for. It eats at you. So maybe you have to talk about it, and maybe you have to write a song about it."

And while Barker could continue, he stops himself and takes a deep breath. Because there are actually other songs on Heart to talk about — 11 more, to be exact. While a final sequence has yet to be determined, the tunes that will make up the album are "Lycanthrope," "Baby Come On," "Little Death," "155," "Lillian," "Cliff Diving," "Weatherman," "No It Isn't," "Make You Smile," "Chapter 13," an electro-instrumental dubbed "Interlude" and the title track, which the band shot a video for earlier this month with director Liz Friedlander (see "Plus-44 Announce Tour Dates — For Real This Time").

"There's been so much written about the album without anyone hearing it, so it's cool to actually talk about some of the songs," Barker's Plus partner, Mark Hoppus, laughed. " 'Make You Smile,' is probably the most electronic song on the record, and it's one of my favorites. Travis had the idea of having a girl sing half the lyrics, and so we had [former Get the Girl frontwoman] Carol [Heller] come down and sing on it. But when we moved into the studio, I was taking over more of the vocals, and Carol wanted to go start a family with her husband, so she decided to leave. It was a mutual decision. But her voice is still on the song, and I think it's beautiful.

"Also, a lot of people have written stuff about this album being really dark and introspective," Hoppus added. "And that's sort of true. There's some really heavy, baring-of-my-soul songs, and then there are songs like 'Cliff Diving' or 'When Your Heart Stops Beating,' which are really positive and incredibly fun."

And that sentiment is echoed by Barker, who wants fans to know that while there is some fairly dark territory mined on Heart, it's definitely an album full of, well, "ups."

"The record is a rollercoaster," Barker said. "It's not all tragedy and sorrow. It takes you to different places. To me, it brings up feelings of, like, driving too fast or skateboarding down the street in the middle of the night. In fact, everything about this band has given me that feeling: Writing a new song, playing our first show, looking at the artwork for our first album, they're all ups. "Well we're just a wet dream for the webzines," wails Brendon Urie on "London Reckoned Songs About Money Written by Machines," the second track on A Fever You Can't Sweat Out. And they might be just that: Panic's uber-catchy melodies are quite literally some of the most likeable songs you will hear all year, which is hardly shocking considering that they sound like the bastard offspring of the Killers and Fall Out Boy.

The comparison to Fall Out Boy is not surprising as it was actually FOB's Pete Wentz who made Panic the first signing to his label Decaydance, an offshoot of Fueled by Ramen. But Urie's emo-tastic vocals and the severity of the group's hooks are where the comparisons stop: Panic's songs are more '80s dance party than Warped Tour fodder. Formed in the Las Vegas suburbs (so the Killers comparison is not off base either), Panic's four members -- Urie on vocals and guitar, Ryan Ross on guitar, Spencer Smith on drums, and Brent Wilson on bass -- are all still remarkably young. While they admit to starting as a blink-182 cover band, Panic has since crafted a debut of smart, prancing songs with titles that would make Minus the Bear proud: "The Only Difference Between Martyrdom and Suicide Is Press Coverage" and "There's a Good Reason These Tables Are Numbered Honey, You Just Haven't Thought of It Yet."

Rather than writing all eleven songs exactly the same way, Panic split the album in two, with one half recorded using drum machines and synthesizers and other using Vaudevillian piano, strings, and accordion. That split, however, is not really noticeable unless you know to listen for it: The songs blend together into one seamless aural experience that worms its way into your head and mercilessly nests there. Between Panic's ruthless hooks and their clever, self-aware lyrics, it's pretty much impossible to argue with Urie when he sings, "Swear we'll shake it up if you swear to listen." Consider this our solemn promise, boys.

Panic! at the Disco tour dates:

10/4, Montreal, QC (Metropolis)
10/5, Rochester, NY (ESL Sports Center)
10/6, Washington, DC (9:30 Club)
10/7, Albany, NY (Washington Avenue Armory)
10/8, Lowell, MA (Paul E.

He plays bass guitar and sings vocals.

Early life
At the age of 15, Mark got his first bass from his father after helping him paint his house. Mark played bass and sang in the band Pier 69, primarily covering songs by The Cure. He also played in a band called The Attic Children in 1988. He later moved to San Diego, where his sister Anne introduced him to Tom Delonge. Delonge was a friend of Anne's at the time, and constantly complained about wanting to join a band. She finally introduced Hoppus and Tom Delonge in August 1992. When Hoppus first went over to Delonge's house, he was told Delonge would be at the skate park. Hoppus went over and found Delonge skating with his friends. Hoppus wanted to impress Delonge, so he climbed a lamp post, jumped off and cracked both ankles and heels and was on crutches for three weeks.

blink-182
Hoppus and Delonge, with their friend, drummer Scott Raynor, decided to form a band in 1992. They were under the name "Duck Tape" until their third show, when Delonge said he liked another name ... "blink". It was around this time that Hoppus, who was attending college at the time with vague hopes of being a high school English teacher, started working at the local record store. Here he was given financial stability along with the gigs the band needed to get Blink started on its road to success. Hoppus knew the band would be gigging on the weekends so he told his boss at the record store he would need the weekends off. He finally was able to quit his job in 1996 when the band's touring schedule began to take off. Only one thing got in the way. An Irish techno band already had been using the name "Blink" and threatened them with a court case, so they changed their name to blink-182. Rumors have suggested they chose the "182" because that is the number of times Al Pacino says "fuck" in the movie "Scarface" or the amount of times Delonge counted Hoppus blinking in one minute (to name but a few) but the band have stated that the figure was picked randomly.

In 1997, after the release of their second album Dude Ranch, blink-182 went on tour with The Aquabats (whose drummer at the time was Travis Barker). Raynor's dismissal from blink-182 was rumored to come when he did not show up for two weeks of shows because of a personal reason. Barker performed instead. Raynor was given the choice to go in rehab or quit the band. He spent a weekend to decide and then rang up to say he would go to rehab but he was told that he was no longer in the band (this is from an interview with Scott Raynor). Barker learned the entire set list in about two hours before a show, and eventually left The Aquabats to become the band's full-time drummer.

In 1999, they released their first album with Barker, Enema of the State. They later released two more studio albums, Take off Your Pants and Jacket and a Self titled album before going on an 'indefinite hiatus' on February 22, 2005

Interview With B182.com
In a special "20 Questions" interview with blink-182 fansite B182.com, Hoppus answers questions which fans have been wanting to know for some time now. Mark quotes things such as: "He said he couldn't be a part of anything he couldn't control", referring to Tom DeLonge during the indefinite hiatus of blink-182. The full interview is available at www.b182.com/askmark1.php

Companies
Mark Hoppus and Tom DeLonge co-own two companies, Atticus and Macbeth Footwear, however in a recent interview for b182.com Mark has stated he is selling his share in both companies; as well as loserkids.com.

Signature Bass
He also has a signature series bass, the Fender Mark Hoppus Bass. This bass consitists of the Precision Bass's Neck and Split Coil Pickups and the offset body of a Jazz Bass. Earlier in his career he used Ernie Ball Music Man basses. He has also been seen using other Fender basses over the years, in the music video for Dammit he is seen using a Fender P-Bass.

Tom Delonge

Thomas Matthew DeLonge, Jr. (born December 13, 1975), is an American musician, best known as one of the founding members of, and guitarist/singer in, bands blink-182 and Angels and Airwaves. He lives with his wife Jennifer, daughter Ava Elizabeth (born July 15, 2002), son Jonas Rocket (born on August 16, 2006 [2]) in Rancho Santa Fe, California. Tom DeLonge was raised by his mother and father in California. He has an older brother, Shon, and a younger sister, Kari. In 1990, on Tom's fifteenth birthday, he received his very first guitar from a friend who had found it lying in a dumpster. Tom was expelled from Poway High School during junior year after being caught drunk at a school basketball game. As Tom went to another school, he met Anne Hoppus, Mark Hoppus' sister, which led to the beginning of blink-182. When he returned to Poway High School during his senior year, the students voted him Prom King at his senior prom.

blink-182

Tom's first band, Big Oily Men, was just for fun. After getting expelled from his old high school on accounts of teenage drinking at a basketball game during his junior year, Tom met Anne Hoppus at his new high school. She had overheard him making a prank phone call to a dentist's office, and found him hilarious. They soon became friends. Tom constantly expressed his desire to form a serious band, so Anne introduced him to her brother, Mark Hoppus, who had recently moved to Poway, California. The night they met Tom was skateboarding with a bunch of friends in a plaza parking lot and to impress Tom, Mark climbed a lamp pole and jumped from the top, cracking both heels. They started a band called Duck Tape, which soon transformed into Blink. In need of a drummer, Tom tapped 14-year-old Scott Raynor, whom he had known from a Battle of the Bands contest. In 1992, the trio created a demo tape entitled Flyswatter.

Their first concert took place at a bar. Since they were underage, they were only allowed to enter when it was time for their set. They bought 50 tickets to sell but no one came to see them. After only one song Blink was kicked out. After the show, the bar manager came up to Tom, bought him a Snapple and said, "You deserve it." Blink eventually got more popular, and on their first real tour, Tom DeLonge was arrested for underage drinking. As they reached newer heights of popularity, they were forced to add a "182" to the end of their name due to threat of legal action by an Irish band already operating under the name Blink.
In an interview with Mark Hoppus, it is stated that the reason for blink-182's indefinite hiatus is that Tom DeLonge quit the band

Travis Barker

Intrigue abounds, but Travis Barker remains calm. This guy is so in control of the universe and everything in it, that freaking out just isn't an option - unless he's getting paid to pound the crap out of a drum kit onstage, of course.

How cool is he right now? He's so cool that his less famous band, Transplants, is a headliner on The Warped Tour. He's so cool that MTV camera crews have documented every second of his waking life for the last year for a new show called Meet The Barkers. He's so cool that he can honestly just shrug when he's asked for the billionth time if Blink-182's current hiatus means that they've broken up.

“People will obviously say what they want,” the fast-talking Barker says, as he fields The Question yet again. “The bottom line is, when we're ready, when we feel we're fixed and our family needs are taken care of, then we'll feel like we're ready to be in a band together again.

“For the last ten years, basically, we'd put out a record, tour for two-and-a-half years, write a record, tour, going nonstop. Everyone in the band has kids. We would come home and my son wouldn't know who I was. Everyone has taken the opportunity to spend time with our kids, but now it's getting busy for me. It was fun while it lasted. Anyway, Blink will probably, most likely, make a record in January of next year.”

Outside of wanting/needing a break from each other, Barker, with the wisdom of his 29 years, insists nothing significant has changed in the warm folds of Blink. “It doesn't really affect anything. A band is just like a relationship: If your wife says to you, 'I need time to be with the baby,' you have to grant her that time. You know, a band is the same way.

“But the rumors are retarded. It's entertaining. No matter what, Blink was taking the time off. I took the time off for Transplants, and it was a known thing that Blink wouldn't be working this year, regardless. All the speculation is flattering, but has it got spun out of control? Absolutely. Obviously, there's rumors that we've broken up or that we hate each other or I left the band or Boxcar is working again. It's just people making stories up. I wish there was a gnarly explanation of everything, but there's not.”

So It's Transplants Time.

Unquestionably gnarly are the prospects of Transplants, whose newest release, Haunted Cities, drops on Barker's own La Salle label in May. The band plans to come out firing on all cylinders with this CD, so whatever you do, don't call it a side project. “In no way, shape, or form is the Transplants a side project,” Barker says indignantly. “It's as important to me as Blink, but due to Blink's schedule, I wasn't able to give Transplants the attention it deserves. So this year has been devoted to Transplants. It's just like when I go make a Blink record.

“Basically, we've been working since December of 2004. We spent one week recording 26 songs, and 16 will go on the record. Neil Pogue is mixing, and it's the best-sounding record I think I've ever played drums on in my life. Obviously, I've played on a couple of records, but this one is amazing. It has 60 tracks of instruments on some songs, and you can hear everything.”

For those unfamiliar with the history, Transplants formed one day back in 2000 when Rancid singer/guitarist Tim Armstrong called up Barker and invited him to play on some tracks he'd recorded. Inventive singer “Skinhead Rob” Ashton collaborated further, and the three declared a band had been born and an album was in order. Their self-titled debut was released on Epitaph in 2002, and after a warm reception, they've been chomping at the bit to go at it again, and just maybe show the world a new way to make music.

“What we're doing in Transplants is groundbreaking,” Barker declares. “It's such a departure from what I do in Blink. We're influenced by drum 'n' bass, rock, hip-hop. We'll find this record crosses over not just to rock, but hip-hop stations. Not since nü metal have I heard a record played on rock and hip-hop stations.

“Everything's outside of the box for Transplants. You're challenged to make acoustic drums sound like electronic drums. We used djembes to sound like 808s. I used acoustic drums to play drum 'n' bass, swing songs with raps swung over. It's exciting, undiscovered territory for me. Things are built off beats. I can give Tim six beats and he'll write to them. It's such a different songwriting process: it's so different from being in a room and saying, 'We'll write a song.'”

Angels and Airwaves

Angels and Airwaves is a solo project created by blink-182 guitarist, Tom DeLonge. His friend and former Box Car Racer member David Kennedy, Offspring drummer Atom Willard and Distillers former bass-player Ryan Sinn are also members of Angels and Airwaves. According to the United States Patent and Trademark Office DeLonge trademarked "Angels and Airwaves" on June 24, 2005 amidst the lingering confusion of blink-182's abruptly announced hiatus. Although no specific release date for an album has been set, DeLonge claims that his new project will be "the best music made in decades" as well as being "much more powerful, emotional and melodic than Box Car and blink put together".

According to the United States Patent and Trademark Office, DeLonge trademarked the name "Angels & Airwaves" on June 24, 2005 amidst the lingering confusion of blink-182's abruptly announced "indefinite hiatus". DeLonge quickly recruited friends and fellow musicians David Kennedy, Ryan Sinn and Atom Willard to round out the band's roster.

In an interview with British magazine Kerrang! DeLonge commented about the band's beginning: "Just before all the blink-182 shit happened when we were in Europe, I had a really weird epiphany. My heart was beating about a hundred miles a minute for three weeks straight and it had never happened to me before in my life. I really felt like I'd been touched by something and I felt I was meant to do something massive."

In addition to the corresponding release of the album, the band is currently working on a movie involving the band's music. The World War II-based movie is being created primarily through the use of CGI. This "story" is apparently based upon Tom's life and will give viewers insight into the hiatus of blink-182. Currently, the only known cast member is Michael Ostman.

Originally, "Valkyrie Missile" was slated for release iTunes on December 13, 2005, DeLonge's 30th birthday. However, due to discussions with their record label, Geffen, the band decided to push the release date back to a later date. Instead, the Angels and Airwaves website produced the first ever glimpse at the movie currently in production, a 1-and-a-half minute long trailer featuring portions of the delayed song.

The band released a music video for "The Adventure," as well as a short film for "It Hurts" that was released via the band's official website. Both are short sci-fi films and carry a chronological order. "The Adventure" comes before "It Hurts" and the films follow the cast's struggle through an unfamiliar world.

On May 26, 2006 "We Don't Need To Whisper" was certified gold in Canada. The album has also gone silver in the U.K.

It looks like "Do It For Me Now" will be released in the US as the second single and "It Hurts" will be released in the UK at the same time. The music video for" It Hurt"s was available to select on the UK music channel Kerrang! from 23rd June 2006. It is rumoured that in the future AVA will release "It Hurts" in the US and "Do It For Me Now" in the UK.

Box Car Racer

Box Car Racer was a side-project created by Tom DeLonge of blink-182.
